Description:

Areas that Could Become of Particular Importance for Biodiversity in Lancashire…

Identification of areas that could become of particular importance for biodiversity is based on the agreed Priorities and identified Potential Measures for achieving them detailed in the LNRS Strategy document. These are mapped opportunity areas for potential measures or actions that could be undertaken on the ground.

New ecological networks have been modelled and have been used to identify where the Potential Measures have been mapped. We have aimed to map the most beneficial opportunities for natures recovery taking account of this connectivity modelling (e.g., connecting similar habitats across the landscape) which was based on the Existing Areas of Particular Importance.

The aim is not to create isolated areas but ecological networks that are bigger, better and more connected to help nature thrive. If a site doesn’t appear it is likely that connectivity opportunities were not identified as a priority in these areas.

More than one potential measure may be proposed in the same area.
